The need to strengthen the prevention and early diagnosis of lung cancer emerged as a central conclusion of this year’s conference, with a particular focus on late diagnosis, the high mortality burden and the social inequalities that burden the most vulnerable groups.
It was emphasized that lung cancer can turn into a disease with high cure rates, if organized screening programs with low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) are implemented. The international and European experience, as well as the available resources and technological infrastructure in the country, make the implementation of the program realistic, necessary and cost-effective.
